No, we do not do install or perform any construction activities in your home. We are available to assist you in locating a contractor and if it's a large project we can serve as project managers. We provide the assessment of your home and a report outlining the modification recommendations that can then be followed by the contractor. Contractors and installers are experts in construction but they usually don't have the necessary expertise to assess your physical needs or the needed modifications. That's where we come in. We take a team approach working with you and your contractor to ensure that the proper modifications are installed and that they are done with your specific needs in mind. For example, you may require grab bars in your bathroom. A contractor will likely follow ADA guidelines which are not specific to your abilities, size, transferring skills or reach. Our Occupational Therapist can make this assessment and provide this critical information to the contractor so that the bars are appropriately placed.
Luckily, there are options. While many of the modifications won't be noticeable to most people, some of the more noticeable items, like accessible showers, grab bars and light switches (just to name a few) come in a variety of attractive colors, styles and shapes.
